Vangenes Cell-Free DNA Blood Collection Tube (BCT) is a direct draw whole blood collection tube intended for collection, stabilization and transportation of cell-free plasma or serum DNA and cellular genomic DNA present in nucleated cells.
DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION
The implications of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in blood in clinical medicine have been known since 1997. cfDNA extracted from plasma of cancer patients has shown characteristics typical of tumor DNA and may serve as non-invasive biomarkers for cancer detection and management. It has also been demonstrated that cfDNA extracted from blood plasma of pregnant mothers contain fetal cfDNA. Clinical applications involving fetal cfDNA analysis include sex determination, single-gene disorders and aneuploidy detection.
Due to the low abundance of the cfDNA biomarkers of cancer or fetal origin, it is recommended that genomic DNA background levels be minimized to provide accurate measurements cfDNA levels.
The mixing cell protective reagent contained in Vangenes Cell-Free DNA BCT can stabilize nucleated blood cells, preventing the release of cellular genomic DNA, inhibiting nuclease mediated degradation of cf-DNA, and contribute to the overall stabilization of cf-DNA.
Blood samples collected in Vangenes Cell-Free DNA BCT are stable for up to 14 days when stored at the recommended temperature range of 6-37°C.
