FAQS
Here we have tried to answer the most common and frequently asked questions that we get from our clients. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to leave us a comment or email us at [email protected]. We’re here to help you answer some of life’s most important questions.
Q: WHY IS YOUR LAB IN AMERICA? WILL THE RESULTS BE ACCEPTED IN THAILAND?

A: Paternity Testing Corporation (PTC) Laboratories is based in the American city of Columbia, Missouri, where it was established in 1996. This means, that for legal Thai purposes, we are considered a ‘foreign laboratory’, even though we have a local presence in Thailand, and in other countries around the world.
This holds an advantage, specifically for relationship DNA testing. The main advantage of our laboratory being based in the USA – as opposed to in Thailand – is that our notarized, legal result reports (issued as originals in English and in Thai) are accepted for official purposes in many countries around the world, thanks to our international accreditations, such as AABB, ISO 17025, and CLIA.
On the other hand, DNA test results issued by local, Thailand-based laboratories are only accepted within Thailand, but not internationally.
Our legal results have been recognized and accepted by embassies and immigration departments, including Thailand, USA, UK,Switzerland, Germany, France, Japan, New Zealand, SIngapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Sweden and more.
This means that, for example, if you want to use the legal test results to A) change the Father’s name on a Child’s Thai birth certificate, and also B) apply for a Swedish passport, then you only need to do one test and the result report can be used for both purposes.
It is important to remember that in order for your results to be considered ‘legal’ (as opposed to peace-of-mind results), your samples must follow chain-of-custody and your identity is verified at the time of your sample collection.
Are you sure the legal results will be accepted in Thailand? I’ve been told that I must go to a Government Hospital for a DNA test.
Yes, we are sure. We have many satisfied clients who have successfully used the results of a DNA test with us for various official purposes and we’d be happy to talk to you about your personal situation.
However, it is a requirement for all legal documents issued outside the Kingdom of Thailand to be authenticated by the Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To do this, the result report must be authenticated – this Authentication Process of your results starts in the USA before completing the process in Thailand, and then arriving in your hands as legal Thai documents, readily accepted by Thai Government or Legal entities. We handle the process for you from start to finish.
This Authentication Process is NOT required for countries other than Thailand and Taiwan, and therefore, we do not include, or ‘bundle’, the additional Authentication Fee into the test price. And you can decide if you need your results authenticated at any time after you know the outcome of the test, whether that is one month or one year or more. You can learn a lot more about authentication of results in our FAQ.
If you were to take a paternity test with a Thai Police Hospital or Government Hospital, your results do not need to be authenticated. However, it usually takes a minimum of four months to get your results, and those results won’t be accepted outside of Thailand.
Can I speak to someone in Thailand about my test, or do I have to call America?
Our customer care office in Bangkok, Thailand, provides a physical touch-point for our clients and those in need of information about DNA testing. Whether you are Thai, an expat, or a tourist, you can visit our office, speak to our team in English and in Thai, and have all your questions answered in person. This is surely a more comfortable and convenient option compared to making an international phone call to our English-speaking staff in America, which is 12 hours behind Thailand time.
In Thailand, our headquarters is in Bangkok, but if you are unable to visit the office, we can often go to you at your home, hotel or hospital, to meet you and legally collect your DNA samples. If this is not possible, we’re just a local phone call away. We also work closely with hospitals and clinics around Thailand, and so we can arrange for your sample to be collected around the country (and abroad), can speak with your own doctor or lawyer, and can help with many other issues. We are also familiar with Thai rules and regulations and how they impact DNA testing.
From here in Bangkok, we also work directly with our scientists, geneticists, and general management team in America, while also being able to offer a personalized, on-the-ground, bilingual customer support service for our clients located in Thailand.
